The book is dedicated to the deadly threat posed to humanity not by natural disasters, epidemics, or extraterrestrial beings, but by man himself. The countdown is not even in decades; everything is already happening before our eyes and with the participation of our generation.
This is a frightening book; perhaps it should not have been written at all. The only justification in this case can be the necessity of drawing attention to the existing threat in order to stimulate more vigorous searches for new paths of development.
