Nestor the Chronicler

The Chronicler Nestor is one of the heroes of our early history. His name has probably been heard by everyone, but little is known about his actual biography, so for most, he has long since turned into a semi-mythical figure.... Meanwhile, Nestor is an outstanding writer of Ancient Rus'. He is the author of the first surviving Russian lives—"Readings on the Life and Death" of the first Russian saints, princes Boris and Gleb, and the Life of St. Theodosius, the abbot of the Caves Monastery. And the author of the chronicle? Yes, undoubtedly. But what chronicle? Scholars, textologists, historians, and philologists have been grappling with this question for many centuries.
