The films of Sergei Eisenstein - "Battleship Potemkin", "October", "Alexander Nevsky", "Ivan the Terrible" - have become classics of world cinema, laying the foundations of modern cinematic art. However, the creative path of the great director was not easy: he... was unable to realize a large part of his ideas, repeatedly faced persecution for ideological reasons, and died just shy of fifty. He had to endure discord with loved ones, betrayal by friends, and painful failures in his personal life. Despite the enormous number of works dedicated to him, a comprehensive biography has yet to be created. The new book by cultural expert and film scholar Mark Kushnirov is an attempt to understand the inner world of Eisenstein, which gave rise to his diverse achievements in cinema, theater, graphics, and journalism.
