The Golden Age of Russian Poetry

The concept of the golden age of Russian poetry is usually associated with the first decades of the century, a period of its unprecedented flourishing. This expression was used by P. A. Pletnev, who called V. A. Zhukovsky the first... in the brilliant galaxy of poets who were contemporaries and friends of A. S. Pushkin. Discoveries in the field of poetic language, overcoming outdated aesthetic demands were linked to the need to expand the potential of lyric poetry, addressing the world of the private person, their experiences, their everyday concerns, or civic aspirations. Poetry gained the ability to reveal the previously inaccessible diversity of the world, becoming a high art. The perfection of form, the accuracy of the chosen word, the originality of thought and images are the criteria that emerged in Russian poetry at the beginning of the century and that determined its development for a long time to come.
