Louis XVI

Louis XVI (1754-1793) - a king for whom the most significant achievement in life became death. Too kind and decent, he could not timely prevent the revolution or decisively deal with its instigators, trying by all means to avoid bloody violence and ultimately becoming one of its first victims. A peace-loving monarch who at another time would have become an enlightened reformer, he calmly accepted his sentence, pronounced and executed by a people intoxicated by freedom, entering history as a weak ruler but a worthy man.
