The Dog in the Manger

In the play "The Dog in the Manger," Countess Diana is torn between her love for her secretary Theodoro and societal norms that prevent her from marrying him. In "The Dance Teacher," young nobleman Aldemaro poses as a dance teacher to enter the home of his beloved, yet even in the guise of a commoner, he wins the love of the beautiful maiden.
The great Spanish playwright Lope de Vega wrote several thousand plays during his lifetime, of which about a quarter have survived to this day. Comedies, full of life, humor, and love, remain relevant and continue to captivate readers and audiences.
