The reader "Russian Folk Medicine" includes sources containing information about folk healers, diseases, methods, and means of their treatment. They were published in the mid-18th to early 20th centuries in newspapers, almanacs, dictionaries, and scientific collections. It is noted that... the rural population deeply believed in the benefits of ancient healing practices using dangerous methods and means, as well as mysterious spells. Behind all of this, according to beliefs, stood bright (God) or dark (demons) forces that granted healers or sorcerers the ability to influence people. The sources reflect the beginning of a complex period of transition from traditional peasant thinking to new thinking based on scientific knowledge. Credit must be given to the authors of the articles - naturalists, doctors, ethnographers, botanists, local historians, philologists, teachers, etc., whose considerable efforts have preserved this collection of unique information, which represents the written heritage of Russian medical culture.
