The reader "Russian Folk Medicine" includes sources containing information about folk healers, diseases, methods, and means of their treatment. They were published in the mid-18th to early 20th centuries in newspapers, almanacs, dictionaries, and scientific collections. It is noted that the rural population deeply believed in the benefits of traditional healing practices using hazardous methods and means, as well as mysterious conspiracies. Behind all this, according to beliefs, stood light (God) or dark (demons) forces that granted healers or sorcerers the ability to influence people. The sources reflect the beginning of a complex period of transition from the traditional thinking of peasants to a new mindset based on scientific knowledge. Credit should be given to the authors of the articles - naturalists, doctors, ethnographers, botanists, local historians, philologists, teachers, etc., thanks to whose considerable efforts this collection of unique information has been preserved, representing the written legacy of Russian medical culture.
