It is noted that the... rural population believed deeply in the benefits of traditional healing practices utilizing dangerous methods and means, as well as mysterious conspiracies. Behind all this, according to beliefs, stood light (God) or dark (devilish) forces, granting healers or sorcerers the ability to influence people. The sources reflect the beginning of a complex period of transition from traditional peasant thinking to a new mindset based on scientific knowledge. One must give credit to the authors of the articles - naturalists, doctors, ethnographers, botanists, local historians, philologists, teachers, etc., whose considerable efforts have preserved this collection of unique knowledge, representing the written heritage of Russian medical culture.
