The published book is a translation of the English version of "Aesthetics" (2007) by Vasily Emilevich Sezeman (1884-1963), which was originally written by the author in Lithuanian. The manuscript of "Aesthetics" was prepared for publication in 1949, but the dramatic...
circumstances of Vasily Sezeman's life prevented the publication of the book by the domestic thinker. The manuscript of "Aesthetics" was long considered lost. The preface describes an almost detective story of its second birth. Truly — manuscripts do not burn. In Lithuanian, "Aesthetics" was published posthumously in 1970 in Vilnius by the Mintis publishing house, with a preface by Academician V. Zirmunsky — a friend of Vasily Sezeman's youth.
Speaking of the published works of V.E. Sezeman, the book "Aesthetics" occupies one of the central places and is the most substantial work of the thinker. The domestic philosopher explored aesthetic issues at all stages of his creative work. The role of aesthetics in Vasily Sezeman's philosophy is also interesting because it serves as a kind of bridge between pure (theoretical) philosophy and the sphere of culture, which organically includes both culture as a whole in its historical and national diversity, as well as questions of art, science, and education.
The book is addressed to all those interested in the history of Russian philosophy and culture and the theory of aesthetics.
