Little Tragedies

The cycle of dramatic miniatures «Little Tragedies» was written by A. S. Pushkin in the autumn of 1830, when the poet spent several months in his estate in Boldino during the cholera quarantine.
These works are not only historical genre scenes,... but also parables about human weaknesses and vices: envy, greed, treachery, indifference, and about what can result from the violation of moral laws. It is no coincidence that Anna Akhmatova wrote that in none of the creations of world poetry are the grave questions of morality raised so sharply.
The famous St. Petersburg artist Vladimir Nenov creatively reinterpreted the legacy of the great poet and presented us with his vision of the plot and its heroes.
Four canonical works that make up the cycle «Little Tragedies» are complemented by unfinished Pushkin sketches — the novella «Egyptian Nights» and «A Scene from Faust».
