Gypsy Tales

Immerse yourself in unique gypsy folklore, where beautiful keshalis – daughters of the king of mists – sit atop the mountains and captivate passing travelers with their gaze. There also live the golden-haired urmas – magical fairies, who dance and... frolic in their palaces by day, and descend from the mountains at night to determine the fate of newborns.
At the bottom of deep rivers lurk evil nivashis – water spirits with fiery red hair, long beards, and hooves of a horse. There is no greater joy for a nivashi than to seize a person, extract their soul, and place it in a pot.
The collection includes beliefs and tales of the gypsies, gathered by Nikolay Albertovich Kun (1877 – 1940) – the author of the well-known books "Legends and Myths of Ancient Greece," "Tales of the Peoples of Africa." The text is complemented by illustrations by L. M. Alexeevskaya, which were part of the 1922 edition.
