Description of the War of Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich Against the Bulgarians and Greeks in 967-971

The fundamental work of Russian historian Alexander Dmitrievich Chertkov (1789–1858) is dedicated to the war waged against the Bulgarians and Byzantines in 967-971 by the outstanding Russian commander Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich (920/942 – 972). Based on the comparison of several chronicle sources—both Slavic and Greek—the author unfolds before us a large-scale picture of the confrontation between two civilizations—the emerging Russian one and the one experiencing its highest phase of development, the Byzantine.
