Overcoming Art

El Lissitzky (1890–1941) — artist, architect, designer, and founder of domestic graphic design. This edition includes his theoretical works on Suprematism, housing culture, methods of book design, and organizing exhibition spaces. Lissitzky mastered many forms of art — painting, typography,... architecture, photomontage. In each, he achieved significant success and introduced radical changes, developing new techniques and methods that defined 20th-century art. By creating drawings of horizontal skyscrapers, communes, and projects for communal living units, Lissitzky aimed to transcend the artistic tradition of his time and establish a new culture, the principles of which he outlined in his manifestos.
