The book «Conquered Кавказ» includes 14 essays discussing the nature, population, and history of Caucasus from ancient times to the end of the 19th century. The main focus is on the dramatic events of the Caucasian War, which ended with the capture of the leader of the highlanders, Shamil. The authors of the essays were well-known historians and publicists of their time. Despite the fact that the book was first published more than a century ago, no other similar work providing such a complete and comprehensive view of Кавказ has been published in Russia to this day.
