The book is dedicated to the history of the Kazan Khanate from the time of its greatest power to the conquest of its territories by Ivan IV and the loss of independence in the mid-16th century. The author describes the political and economic structure of the region, the everyday life of the Volga Tatars, highlights the complex issues of the coexistence of two vast states, one of which ultimately absorbed the other, as well as the cultural intertwining and strengthening of ties between the two peoples.
