The value of the young girl's memories is enhanced by small details of the royal family's life in exile, emotional descriptions of the attempts to free them, and vivid and womanly accurate portraits of their entourage. Moreover, the book includes excerpts from letters by Dr. Botkin, written before his execution, detailing life in Yekaterinburg. Such testimonies have not survived in large numbers for certain reasons. This makes the memories of Tatiana Botkina a unique historical document.
