Victoria Renar, the world's first female constable, arrives in Aquilita on vacation and meets Plague Polly in one of the squares. She doesn't look much like a ghost, and people confirm that this Polly is not real. Could someone be using the local legend for personal gain?
Victoria decides to unravel the mystery of Plague Polly at all costs, to lift the curse, if it truly exists, and to find the scoundrels who have frightened the city.
