For five centuries, the curse of Plague Polly has troubled Aquilita. The city hides from it behind the masks of the Eternal Masquerade, in carnival and festivities. After all, if there is no merriment, the ghost of Polly will bring... plague...

Victoria Renar, the world's first female constable, arrives in Aquilita on vacation and meets Plague Polly in one of the squares. She doesn't look much like a ghost, and people confirm that this Polly is not real. Could someone be using the local legend for personal gain?
Victoria decides to unravel the mystery of Plague Polly at all costs, to lift the curse, if it truly exists, and to find the scoundrels who have frightened the city. But who will protect Victoria herself? She is a mage, and magic in women is usually sealed from birth, otherwise this gift kills them. Now the physician of Aquilita predicts her imminent death...
