Bushido. The Samurai Code

"The Way of the Noble Warrior" - this is how the three characters that make up the word "bushido" are translated. The code of honor of a true warrior, which originated in the 12th century, has remained the cornerstone of all Japanese culture for centuries. Its rules determined the life and death of a warrior, incorporating samurai ideals of duty, courage, and loyalty.

The most famous version of the "Japanese code of honor" appeared in 1899. Its author was Inazo Nitobe (1861-1933), a politician, scholar, and philosopher who not only gathered the ancient rules of bushido but also drew important parallels with the ethics of European chivalry, bridging the gap from Japan to European culture. The book describes not only rituals but also the way of thinking of the samurai, its system of values, which is largely relevant to this day.
