Separate chapters of the publication are dedicated to the history of the development of the Imperial Russian submarine fleet and the creation of submarines by domestic shipbuilders. The book includes works by the first Russian submariners: Ivan Rizinich, Mikhail Tyeder, Konstantin Nordshtein, Vasily Merkushov, Vadim Poderin.

The publication is richly illustrated with works of classical painting, antique drawings, and photographs of the very first submarines — from the underwater devices of Drebbel and Bushnell to the submarines of World War I.
