The Epic of Ancient Russia

This book reprints two rare studies from the mid-19th century on the history of ancient Russian culture: «The Heroes of the Time of Grand Prince Vladimir According to Russian Songs», written by one of the leaders of the Slavophile movement, Konstantin Sergeevich Aksakov (1817—1860), and «Features of the Popular Southern Russian History» by Nikolai Ivanovich Kostomarov (1817—1885). An appendix contains songs about Ilya Muromets and Dobrynya Nikitich from a collection of Russian songs, prepared by member of the Slavophile circle Pyotr Vasilyevich Kireevsky (1808—1856), which were used in the published works as subjects of research.
