The Noble Nest

Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818–1883) — a famous Russian realist writer, publicist, and translator, who earned recognition worldwide. He became one of the first to explore the topic of the “new man,” and thanks to him, the nihilist movement received broad attention in society. He was a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, an honorary doctor of Oxford University, and an honorary member of Moscow University.
In most of the writer's works, the idea of depicting the inner world of a person, their sincere experiences, and emotional impulses can be traced, and the vividness of the narrative allows the reader to fully feel the life’s vicissitudes of many unique characters. At the same time, one of the main themes of the stories and the novel in this collection becomes the gain and loss of true love. First love and destructive, irrational passion, the confrontation between virtue and vice, and other twists of feelings collide in the sensitive souls of Turgenev’s heroes and stand on par with historical events: “First love is the same as revolution: the monotonous and correct order of established life is shattered and destroyed in an instant, youth stands on the barricade, its bright banner waves high — and whatever awaits it ahead — death or a new life, — it sends its exuberant greeting to all.”
This edition includes the novel “The Noble Nest,” as well as the stories “Spring Torrents” and “First Love.”
