Martin Schongauer. Engravings

The German artist and engraver Martin Schongauer lived in the era of the Early Renaissance. His works were appreciated by people, which earned him the name "Beautiful Martin". In the 117 engravings left by the master, his remarkable talent was most fully revealed. The artist created compositions in which his heroes became participants in genre scenes. He subtly conveys the uniqueness of space in his engravings, and the chiaroscuro he mastered allows for the identification of the texture features of objects. Some of his compositions are referred to as "majestic" by critics.
