A partisan detachment lost in the depths of Belarusian forests is in need of food, warm clothing, and medicine. Two fighters set out on a foray for provisions — former army sergeant Ryback and artillery officer Sotnikov, who worked as... a teacher in a school before the war. Confronted by a patrol, the partisans are captured and face a choice: betray their comrades and save their lives or remain silent and accept death with dignity.
