Nikolai Sergeyevich Golitsyn created his capital work "General Military History" during his tenure as a professor at the Imperial Military Academy, where he headed the department of strategy and military history. Golitsyn's work became the first in Russia and one of the first in Europe to attempt a complete and systematic exposition of general military history. The work provides a comprehensive and detailed overview of the wars and campaigns of great commanders, military-historical events in necessary connection with the contemporary history of the author: political, military art, the art and science of warfare, and military literature.
This work has not been reissued since its first publication. This edition includes parts classified by the author as Modern Times and united under the title "Wars of the 1st French Revolution and Republic (1792-1801)."
