Historical Poetics

“Historical Poetics” by A.N. Veselovsky (1838–1906), recognized as a classic of philology during the author's lifetime, significantly influenced the development of many fields of humanitarian knowledge throughout the 20th century. An outstanding Russian philologist, researcher of Russian and world literature, translator, and pioneer of comparative-historical literary studies, A.N. Veselovsky was well ahead of his time, becoming a pioneer of the theory of syncretism in primitive poetry. He was the first to establish the analysis of folk epics based on comparative studies of verbal and written traditions in various cultures, paying special attention to the study of Russian epics.
