"Historical Poetics" by A.N. Veselovsky (1838-1906), recognized as a classic of philology during the author's lifetime, significantly shaped the development of many fields of humanitarian knowledge throughout the 20th century. An outstanding Russian philologist, researcher of domestic and world literature,... translator, and the founder of comparative-historical literary studies, A.N. Veselovsky was far ahead of his time, becoming a pioneer in the study of the syncretism of primitive poetry. He was the first to affirm the analysis of folk epics based on the comparative study of verbal and written traditions in various cultures, paying special attention to the study of Russian epics.
The proposed book includes key works by A.N. Veselovsky, illustrating the breadth and depth of his views, as well as the methods of historical poetics — a scientific discipline on the genesis and evolution of literary forms.
