Guesses and Dreams about Primitive Humanity

This publication presents selected works of the outstanding Russian folklorist, linguist, and literary scholar Academician Fyodor Ivanovich Buslaev (1818-1897). Fyodor I. Buslaev's views on the fate of domestic literature are revealed in great depth in his works "Epic Poetry", "Russian Life and Proverbs", "The Oldest Epic Traditions of the Slavic Tribes". His fundamental works "Comparative Study of Folk Life and Poetry" and "Guesses and Dreams about Primitive Humanity" retain their scientific significance. The unique position of Fyodor I. Buslaev in the literary and public life of the mid-19th century is presented in a series of his polemical articles and reviews. The publication also includes correspondence between Fyodor I. Buslaev and his students - Academician A.N. Veselovsky and Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences A.I. Kirpichnikov.
