Kremlin Wives

The documentary and journalistic research by Larisa Vasilieva is dedicated to the fates of those women whose husbands were leaders of the Soviet state. From Nadezhda Krupskaya to Raisa Gorbacheva, the author paints portraits of "Kremlin wives," narrating their characters, actions, and the complex intertwining of their life paths. What were these companions of the first figures of the USSR like? Were their lives happy behind the Kremlin walls? Why were some of them arrested or exiled? A special place in the book is occupied by those who, not in the role of a wife, entered the corridors of the Kremlin as companions: Larisa Reisner, Alexandra Kollontai, Galina Semenova. The book is based on unique archival materials, personal impressions, conversations with eyewitnesses, and the memories of contemporaries.
