Vasily Aksyonov (1932–2009) — a cult writer of the sixties and a disgraced one of the seventies, a playwright and screenwriter, a bright innovator in Russian prose of the 20th century. Since 1981, he has been a professor of Russian literature at universities in the USA, in the early 90s he lived in France and returned to Russia. The book includes works from his early period — “Star Ticket,” “Oranges from Morocco,” “It’s time, my friend, it’s time.” “Aksyonov has a unique gift — to be a hero of his time while remaining a hero of modernity. He does not have one main book. There are at least two Aksyonovs — before 'Burn' and after 'Burn.' There is the author of confessional prose of the magazine “Youth,” there is the dissident Aksyonov writing for future 'samizdat’ and 'tamizdat.' There is a third Aksyonov, the author of “Island of Crimea” — a thinker, the creator of a brilliant political-philosophical parable. As well as the creator of “Stocked Barrel Goods,” “Oranges from Morocco,” separate, unique texts.
