Sergey Sergeyevich Oldenburg was an erudite and expert in history, and that is why the Supreme Monarchist Council commissioned him to write the history of the reign of Emperor Nicholas II. The author had access to unique documents. Copies of the originals of genuine historical acts of the Russian Empire were, for safety reasons, sent for storage to the Russian embassy in Paris long before World War I.
