August von Kramon (1861-1940) was appointed as the plenipotentiary representative of Germany at the General Staff of the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I. As a link between the commands of the two powers, Major General von Kramon was directly involved in the development and conduct of military operations, maintained contacts between the allies and the high command of the armies, and was therefore able to accurately document the situation in Austro-Hungary from 1914 to 1918. The author reliably and impartially describes not only the major battles, peace negotiations, the fall of the monarchy in Russia, and other significant events of World War I, but also the intrigues in the high command, diplomatic maneuvers, and ambiguous political agreements that determined the course of the war.
