On the Meaning of the Names Rus and Slavs

This publication is one of the first works that unveils the mystery surrounding the historical origins of the ethnonyms "Rus" and "Slavs". It is authored by the Russian legal scholar, ordinary professor at Moscow University, Fyodor Lukich Moroshkin (1804-1857).
The author... holds the view that the ancestors of the Rus and Slavs widely settled across the expanses of Eurasia, and ancient historians described them under various names, sometimes inaccurately. F. L. Moroshkin tells us: "Now, having a substantial stock of philological and historical evidence on my side, I confidently affirm that Rus comes from the word 'forest' or 'grove'. This is the main statement!"
