On the Meaning of the Name of Rus' and Slavs

This edition represents one of the first works that sheds light on the mystery surrounding the history of the emergence of the ethnonyms "Rus'" and "Slavs". It belongs to the pen of the Russian legal scholar, ordinary professor at Moscow University, Fyodor Lukich Moroshkin (1804-1857).
The author holds the view that the ancestors of the Rus' and Slavs settled quite widely across the expanses of Eurasia, and ancient historians described them under various names, sometimes inaccurately. F. L. Moroshkin tells us: "Now, having a significant stock of philological and historical evidence on my side, I confidently assert that Rus' originates from the word 'forest', or 'grove'. This is the main position!"
