The work provides a complete and detailed overview of the wars and campaigns of great commanders, military-historical events in necessary connection with the contemporary history of the author: political, military art, the art and science of warfare, and military literature. Subsequently, the work was translated into German, and its author was elected a member of the Swedish Academy of Military Sciences.
The book has not been reissued since its first publication. This edition publishes the first part of the work - "Ancient World", devoted to the analysis of the central military conflicts of antiquity up to the wars of the Roman Empire.
