They were forced to shoot at their comrades in the main cause of life, forced to sink steamships - the glory and pride of the river fleet. How to keep a conscience amid catastrophe? How to protect those you love, who have trusted you? How to defend progress, which is indifferent to social battles? There, on the decks of river tugs, captains sought an honest path to the future, and the small man became stronger than the huge and powerful steamship.

This time Alexey Ivanov turned to fiction. A team of loggers on an all-terrain vehicle makes its way through the dense forests of the Urals to an abandoned military facility in the mysterious Yaman-Tau mountain. And the world around - it seems like ours, but somehow not quite... The geography is real, however, the villages and towns are empty, the factories are dead, and the roads are overgrown with trees. And most importantly - the forest itself has changed. Its vegetation is artificially accelerated for timber production, and the forest has mutated. It lives its own life. It has turned against civilization: in its thickets, plague-walkers hide - mad machines, and people here lose their biological nature. However, is it only biological?.. The teams of loggers are no better than the surrounding world: they are competitors to each other, and there is war between them.
The novel "Vegetation" is constructed according to the canons of many genres. It is a road movie - a story of a journey, an odyssey. It is post-apocalyptic - post-apocalypse. It is dieselpunk in the Russian wilderness. It is solid sci-fi - science fiction. The variety of dystopias is akin to the mutagenic forest, however, "Vegetation" tells not about where the heroes are going, but about where we ourselves are heading.
