Small World or "Маленький мир" is one of the most famous board games, released in 2009 and still maintaining its popularity. The game belongs to the strategic genre, combining serious mechanics with a cheeky approach to setting and genre as a whole. Just look at the character designs to fully immerse yourself in the game’s atmosphere. Players will engage in a fierce expansive war for territories. Very small and limited lands... It’s no coincidence that the game is called "Small World", as all races surely cannot fit here. Speaking of races, there are a multitude in the game, each with its own special feature. Amazons are highly aggressive, there are simply a lot of ratmen, dwarves are efficient on captured mines, and so on.You will need to choose a fantastical race and its ability, and then strive to conquer the surrounding lands and earn as many coins as possible. Over time, your race will spread wider across the world (just like that race you just crushed to dust), and you will have to abandon it to assume leadership of a new one.By skillfully managing races, various abilities, timely allowing races to decline, and adjusting your strategy to the situation on the world map, you will surely carve your path to victory!How to play?The game starts with choosing a suitable map for the number of players. After that, various objects must be placed on the map, for example, mountains that are harder to conquer and tokens of the forgotten tribe, which are a neutral force that restrains players from too quickly capturing the map at the very beginning of the game.
Next to the map, starting races and various abilities are randomly placed. As you can understand, there may be a vast number of variations, from Swamp Wizards to Flying Giants; some offer flexibility in strategy, some additional power, and others extra gold. Additionally, each race has its population, meaning a different number of tokens you can manage. Players will need to choose one of the combinations, and with it, they will begin their military exploits. You must use various abilities as efficiently and profitably as possible to collect more coins.The turn of the game looks quite simple: 1. Choosing a race or allowing it to decline – at the very start of the game you select your starting race with an ability. The topmost combination is free, each subsequent one costs one coin more, while payment is made this way: you leave one coin on each race above yours. Subsequently, the player who chose the race with coins collects them.During the game, you can let your race decline. This is beneficial when continuing effective conquest is no longer possible, and you want to preserve your captured territories. All race tokens on the map are turned grey side up, and only one token can be on a region, meaning you cannot build a defense. The ability token is discarded, and your turn ends with a point count – regions still generate income. At the start of your next turn, you can choose a new race with an ability and immediately send it to conquer. 2. Capturing regions – a new race can capture only from bordering zones. To capture, you must move two of your race tokens to a border or adjacent region plus one additional for each enemy race token (as well as for tokens of mountains, fortifications, etc.). The defending player will suffer losses, losing one token from the region, but at the end of your turn, they can redeploy the remaining troops.When you make your final capture on your turn, you can use the reinforcement die. Lady luck might give you from 1 to 3 "virtual" tokens, allowing you to capture a region even with one token. Will you be lucky or not, but this capture will be the last in this turn.After making the last capture, you can redistribute all troops, strengthening those regions you deem most valuable or likely to be attacked by your opponent.3. Earning coins – at the end of your turn, you earn one coin for each region you control, including those regions where races are in decline.Who won?
The game lasts a certain number of rounds, depending on the map and, accordingly, the number of players. When all players make their moves in the last round, a final point count occurs.
