Thomas Hobbes is an English materialist philosopher who questioned the divine origin of man, challenging medieval scholasticism. For his views, he was repeatedly persecuted by the clergy — after the publication of the treatise "Leviathan," which argued for the priority... of the state over the church, and likened it to a biblical monster, serving as an earthly embodiment of God's omnipotence, the philosopher was declared an "infidel," and he was forced to hide in France. This edition also includes the treatise "On the Body" — an extensive exposition of the thinker’s views on the nature of man, as well as the work "Human Nature," where Hobbes aims to derive practical rules from general principles of knowledge about human nature, according to which people behave in society.
