«The Picture of Dorian Gray» — the most successful novel by Irish writer Oscar Wilde. The work was first published in 1890, however, the questions of morality and ethics raised by the author are relevant even today. Dorian Gray — a young man with an attractive appearance, becomes the muse of artist Basil Hallward. One day, Basil introduces Dorian to Lord Henry Wotton, whose hedonistic views have a strong influence on the young man. The young aristocrat begins to contemplate the transience of youth and beauty. The portrait, painted by Basil, presents itself to Dorian as a symbol of eternal youth. The text of the work is shortened and adapted for the B1 level.
