The book is dedicated to the problem of the formation of the Slavs and their early history. It covers the period from the 2nd millennium BC to the middle of the 1st millennium AD. At the beginning of this period, an ancient European community existed in Central Europe, from which the Celts, Italians, Illyrians, Germans, and Slavs emerged. It concludes with the Great Migration of Peoples.
