The Avonlea Chronicles

"The Avonlea Chronicles" by Lucy Montgomery is a collection of twelve stories by Lucy Montgomery, related to the novels about Anne Shirley. The main theme of the collection is the everyday life of the island's residents, their relationships, and the... stories they find themselves in. Readers will witness first romantic infatuations, family joys and sorrows, as well as struggles with the hardships of life that each resident faces. The setting unites all the stories - the town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Anne plays only a secondary role in these stories, but through vivid characters and nostalgic descriptions, Montgomery creates a world that is no less cozy and charming than in the novels about Anne of Green Gables. In the stories, we will encounter mentions of Marilla Cuthbert, Rachel Lynde, and Diana Barry. However, most of the heroes of these stories were not mentioned in the novels, as most of the stories were written by Montgomery and published in magazines even before the idea of the novel about Anne. After the success of the novel "Anne of Green Gables," the publisher persuaded Montgomery to release these stories, including references to Anne and other characters.
