Brief Information on Typography

Reprint of the 1899 book with the appendix of the chapter "Title. Cover" from the 2nd, corrected edition of 1929.
The book by Pyotr Kolomnin, published at the very end of the 19th century, remains practically the only example of an original Russian edition fully dedicated to typesetting, layout, and typography. Until the mid-20th century, almost all books on typography published in the USSR borrowed texts and illustrations from Kolomnin.
A significant part of the book is devoted to manual typesetting; nevertheless, the publication from beginning to end can be recommended as a reference and informative reading for any contemporary designer, typographer, and editor.
