The Fairy of the Alps

The action of the novel unfolds in mountainous terrain, where the fates of several characters intersect. The young baroness Erna von Turgau grows up to be a cheerful and joyful person. Her father chose a life unburdened by social conventions,... and he could not imagine a better life for his daughter. But one day, the railway bursts into their lives, which is planned to be laid right through the lands of Turgau. The construction is overseen by the young ambitious engineer Wolfgang Elmhorst, the right hand of Mr. Nordheim, Erna's uncle. The young people immediately take a dislike to each other and, it seemed, their relationship would take no form other than hostility…Wolf makes a mistake, realizes it, and almost loses his happiness, exchanging it for the satisfaction of material ambitions.
