Sveneld. The Raven of Holmgarðr

The battle at Itil destroys the centuries-old trade route from Rus' to Khazaria. Sveneld, who has come to the land of the Merians for tribute, delivers King Olav's proposal: a spring campaign along the Volga to Bulgar to establish new connections.
