Moral Letters to Lucilius

Lucius Annaeus Seneca — one of the most famous Stoic philosophers, a writer of Ancient Rome, the tutor of Emperor Nero, who ironically later died by his command. Seneca's works had a tremendous influence on all later Christian thinkers. He was so respected that there was even a legend about his correspondence with the Apostle Paul. This real textbook consists of fragments from two of Seneca's best works, “On Benefits” and “Moral Letters to Lucilius.” In them, the philosopher reflects on friendship, benefaction, and virtue, on the vicissitudes of fate, on human death and his eternal process of dying on Earth, on joy and pleasure, on the wisdom of life, on self-knowledge, on what philosophy is and what it gives to a person.
