This year was brewing, and one day it fell like hail.
...Since November 2013, with the emergence of Euromaidan in Kyiv, I have kept records of a foreign tumult that has become my own tumult — and the main feeling was: "This has happened to us before! This is not the first time!".
The Russian people have historically lived from one evangelical holiday to another. Once a century, a great victory or a great upheaval would occur, a journey to India or to space. These days replenished the evangelical cycle, but did not change it.
Someone may say that this is a cursed circle. But a circle is not a dead end. It is a carousel of Russian history that will never grow dull.
In 2014, it seemed to us that we were flying into the abyss. But we simply entered yet another round. The same faces, familiar to us from our history: warriors, righteous ones, rebels, tax collectors, nobles, holy fools...
Thanks that we were not once again deprived of this cup.
...I am not ashamed of what I have said — and I am still convinced that my eyes were clear and my judgments were reasonable. To those who think quite differently, I will say one thing: I look at everything through the eyes of the people to whom I have the happiness to belong.
