On September 18, 1970, 27-year-old Jimi... Hendrix died, on October 4, 1970 - the great Janis Joplin, who was also only 27 at that time, and on July 3, 1971, 27-year-old Jim Morrison perished.
This string of deaths prompted the creation of the unofficial '27 Club' and marked the end of an era of great freedom in the States. Since then, all musicians, actors, and writers who died before the age of 30 are recorded as members of this 'club'.
Syd and Nancy, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, Heath Ledger, Amy Winehouse… They left at the peak of fame. The unfinished montage of their lives will continue to fascinate fans for decades, and no one will ever truly believe in their deaths. Why 27? What made them disillusioned with life, and why does it fascinate us so much?
