Before you is a three-volume edition of Russian folk tales, collected by Alexander Nikolayevich Afanasyev, an outstanding researcher of folk poetry who lived in the 19th century. This collection represents the most complete edition — it includes not only well-known tales from childhood, such as "Kolobok" or "Repka," but also adult tales that were previously published in the collection "Russian Testament Tales" and in the manuscript "Folk Russian Tales Not for Publication," anecdotes, and fables. In addition to these, the third volume contains tales that were previously removed from print by censorship. The basis of this edition was taken from the three-volume work of 1984, with the exception of tales in foreign languages. A.N. Afanasyev's collection rightfully deserves to be considered a folkloric and literary monument that has opened the wealth and diversity of Russian culture to the whole world.
