The Kingdom of Ephyria is in grief and turmoil. The only legitimate heir to the throne has died, and his place has been taken by a talentless bastard — an unheard-of disgrace! And while the king is unwilling to interfere in state affairs until the mourning period is over, the newly minted half-blood prince refuses to follow tradition: he does not wish to take an Ephyran as a concubine and is in no hurry to get engaged to the princess of the neighboring kingdom.
