The Scandinavian countries — Iceland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden — despite their cultural and traditional closeness, are still very different from each other. Using archaeological reports, descriptions of rock paintings, analyzing and comparing the products of ancient craftsmen, Hilda Ellis Davidson reconstructed a comprehensive picture of the worldview of the fearless northern man, who created a pantheon of pagan gods and valued martial glory and the interpretation of wise runes above all.
