On Tyranny. Essay

The book includes selected essays by Joseph Brodsky, written in exile during the 1980s and 1990s. Most of the essays were published in the author's collections "Less Than One" (1986) and "On Grief and Reason" (1995) and are published in translation into Russian. They are complemented by the rarely published "Reflections on a Spawn of Hell" and "The Writer in Prison". These texts discuss history and freedom, the nature of power, and the relationship to it. Brodsky reflects on the essence of creativity regardless of the political regime and the impact of external circumstances on the writing person.
