Behind the Door, Ghosts Wait

For many years after the end of the war, most Germans separated from their loved ones dreamed of family reunification and a normal life. However, private life behind the doors of homes did not become the oasis of peace that these people longed for. What happened left a deep mark on the daily lives of families. Fathers and husbands after the war and captivity became different. Their children grew up and were raised in an atmosphere of silence, hints, and strictness. Ultimately, the generational conflict turned into street riots.
Florian Huber describes the post-war family drama from the perspective and in the name of these people. Among them, we see a returning front-line soldier leading a double life, a young mother tangled in her own secrets, a schoolboy who uncovered parental lies, and a girl who dared to rebel against her brutish soldier-father. In the fates that tell of a world untouched by the optimism of society's recovery, the grim depths and bottomless chasms of that era are palpably felt.
